One of the largest exchanges got hacked last year and lost significant customer fund. Rather than going bankrupt, they issued a token to customers that represented a credit dependent on the company recovering the losses. In less than a year, Bitfinex has covered the losses and BFX token holders were made whole.

At the Taipei Ethereum Meetup, Vitalik Buterin, one of the co-founders and lead developers of Ethereum, revealed that the development of a proof of stake is 75% complete. The transition from PoW to PoS will be a major milestone for Ethereum.

This is changing thanks to the blockchain.
